Just Ignite the Light and Let It Shine!

So finally home from Spring Break and catching up on my bloggage! Two weekends before the break we had a school trip to Budapest! Budapest is definitly a city that shouldn't be missed. It is absolutely gorgeous and so rich with modern history. The trip began after a loooong week of midterms, so it was a much needed break for all of us. Tayler and I couldn't miss Thursday classes like most of our friends did because we both had big art tests that day, so we booked a flight directly out of Florence for late that evening... excited because even though we were paying more for our flight, we were leaving from Flo and using Lufthansa! That brillant plan of ours had a big backfire though. I can't repeat enough how much I hate Frankfurt airport! There is ALWAYS a delay there, which is soooo annoying. Needless to say, we were two hours late leaving Flo, and thus missed our connection in Frankfurt. We had to spend the first night of our trip in a airport hotel and get up at 4 to catch our early morning flight. Thankfully, I wasn't alone and has Tayler and our friend, Madeline, to keep me company in this slightly annoying delay.

We made it to our amazing 5 star hotel just in time for the absolutely inssssannne breakfast. Seriously though, all of us GIF kids were sooo stoked on their amazing spread. From an omlet bar to fresh pasteries they really had it all! After a quick breakfast and rest, we were off on our walking tours of both Buda and Pest (yeppp its actually 2 different cities). The cities are absolutely beautiful and the architecture is on another level. We saw all of the WWII memorials and Communist spots, and more importantly saw where Katy Perry filmed her latest video, Firework, at. That was what all of us seemed to be the most excited for. We ended the tour at a famous budapest bakery for cake and concluded the afternoon with three hours in their famous thermal baths... sooo relaxing! The night was filled with goulash and potatoes and an early bed time since I had been up since 4.

The next day was a communist tour, that included a visit to the biggest wine barrel in the world, and an afternoon trip to the terror museum, which was excellent. It detailed the Nazi and Communist reigns in Hungary. It is located in the old Communist headquarters and has left the torture chambers fully intact, which is absolutely haunting. We ended the day with a crusie down the Danube river, looking at Parliment and the castle all lit up. It was absolutely breathtaking. Sunday was filled with starbucks and sleeping in before our plane back to Florence... it was nice to see such a cool city... all in a weekends work.
