I'm On The Top Of The World Lookin' Down On Creation

So the Swiss Alps are pretty amazing. That's just a TOTAL understatement actually... they are incredible. This was the most perfect weekend to get back to nature and discover the most naturally beautiful places I have been! Switzerland is AMAZE.

This weekend couldn't have come at a more perfect time. I needed a little break from reality. The week leading up to Interlaken was rough. I was sick with the cat flu (aka a bad respitory infection that I needed to give a name to) and had a rough Art History test... so I needed to have a super relaxing, fresh air breathing weekend. We left Flo at 7 pm, ready for a 8 hour bus ride.. I drugged myself with nyquil to sleep, so I can't tell you much about the bus ride. Four movies and 8 hours later we arrived in Interlaken just in time to crash in the lodge and get a quick 3.5 hour nap in before snowboarding the next morning! 7:30 came fast and it was time to get up and get grooving for our ridiculous adventure in the Alps. We headed out to rent our gear, which took a bit, and then the 7 of us headed to the train to take us up to the top of the mountain. That's what I love about the alps... they have trains to take you up to the top and drop you off at the top of the run... soooo efficent... and cleanly since no cars can pollute the mountain up. We spent the rest of the morning shredding the hill (and of course I HAD to use snowboarding terms like shredding and sicky sicky gnar gnar all weekend!) We stopped for lunch on the top of the hill and seriously had a life changing hamburger.. like for real... and then spent the rest of our afternoon skiing the Alps... seriously can't imagine a better way to spend my friday. I literally was in constant awe of the beauty I was surrounded by as I raced down the hill on my board.

That night was pretty uneventful. We were home around 6ish, showered, and made ourselves peanut butter crackers and sandwichs... thats the downfall to the Swiss.. they make everything cost an arm and a leg... so we brought loaves of bread, saltines, peanut butter, and apples for the weekend... not much to live off of. We spent the rest of the evening recapping our day with our two friends who did other extreme sports and gossiping in our mega bed.... pretty perfect.

The next day was a little less extreme, but no less beautiful. Seven of us headed up to the little hil town of Murren to get some stellar alp time in. You have to take a gondola up to the top of the hill and then a little train to Murren... SOOO scenic. Murren was a little slice of heaven.. seriously. It was beautiful. We walked around for a little bit and then decided to have hot chocolate at this restraunt with a panoramic view of the Alps. The sun was up and I could have sat there for days. It was just THAT beautiful. We spent the rest of the afternoon back down the hill shopping in Interlaken's super cute downtown. I scored a Sigg waterbottle for 22 US dollars when they cost about 45 state side.. LOVE that.

That evening we had had enough of Peanut butter and crackers and decided to suck it up and spend some money on dinner. Kaitlin and I found this hole in the wall on trip advisor and saw that soup was cheap so we decided to head down there. When we got there we were met by Jeanette who told us she would make some room for us if we wait a little while.. which we ofcourse did. When we were finally seated she brought us FREE water... a rarity in Europe.. which had ice and lemon... even more of a rarity... We were literally jazzed. The fun didn't stop there. I guess the hunger showed in our eyes becuase jeanette brought over two pasta dishes as a free appetizer for our table.. apparently they were made wrong for another table and just couldn't go to waste... they were gone in maybe 2 minutes. We ordered our beer, soup, and french fries to share and were perfectly content. I got a salad and had asked for french dressing with it... which turned out to be basically ranch... which is number one on my most missed condiment... needless to say we went crazy with it on our fries... combine that with our ketchup we had a pretty bomb fry sauce. Imagine 7 girls digging into the fries and sauce like they hadn't eaten in year.. cute? I would say no, but apparently the band the Music Monkeys say yes since they noticed us and all bought us beers... Thanks to Tana who caught one of their eyes... Four hours later we were still there.. it was one of those GIF dinners that last years and seriously are the best memories we have.

The walk back to the hotel was interrupted by a bombardment of the schools hostel, since they had a trip there at the same time but we went with euroadventures and saved 100 euro... seriously though they werent as amused with our dinner as we were... since it was probably one of the funniest dinners ever.

The next morning was spent by walking to the river and spending our last franks... and at 12 we headed back to Flo on another 8 hour bus ride.. which was so worth it... SWITZERLAND IS AMAZING.
